Caviar Consumption Methods
The first method is more authentic: rub the caviar on the back of your hand to warm it slightly, making it easier to eat. This was one of the favorite ways of the Russian Tsar. Alternatively, you can gently smell it before putting it in your mouth to appreciate its unique salty aroma, then eat it in one bite. The second method uses a simple spoon, preferably made from mother-of-pearl, for an even better experience.
Caviar is best enjoyed with plain toast, light biscuits, or pancakes.
Common accompaniments include whipped cream, lemon wedges, egg whites and yolks, chopped onions, and pancakes.
Wild Caviar
Wild caviar has been extinct since 2011 due to its global ban by CITES. This was caused by the overfishing of precious sturgeon, which drove them to the brink of extinction. Fortunately, these sturgeon are now farmed, allowing us to enjoy this exquisite caviar once again.
