Comte cheese is one of France's most popular cheeses. Its origins date back 800 years to the Middle Ages. The long, harsh winters of the Juha Mountains often left residents facing food shortages.
However, the local dairy farmers were well-developed, producing high-quality milk. This led residents to create cheese to store surplus milk for the winter, and Comte was born out of this need.
Comte cheese originates from the Condé region in eastern France and is certified as an AOP (Protected Designation of Origin). It has a dense, chestnut-like texture and a light sweetness,
with delicate aromas of straw and walnut. The flavor develops subtly with age, and its versatile preparations make it a popular choice.
